Pharmacy First
The Pharmacy First scheme in Haringey allows patients to get help from a pharmacist for minor conditions without needing to see a doctor.
Pharmacists can provide advice and treatment for seven common conditions, including:
- Sinusitis
- Sore throat
- Earache
- Infected insect bite
- Impetigo
- Shingles
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
Patients can access the Pharmacy First service by:
- Attending a pharmacy: Patients can attend a participating pharmacy directly without a referral.
-
Receiving a referral: Patients can receive a referral from a general practice, urgent and emergency care setting, or NHS 111.
Pharmacists can recommend the best course of action for each patient, which may include providing a prescription for antibiotics or antivirals.
The Pharmacy First scheme is part of a wider initiative called the North Central London Self-Care Medicines Scheme, which also includes the Self-Care Medicines Scheme. This scheme provides free non-prescription medicines for minor ailments to people and families on low incomes.
